[Moar fic] Fast Learner & Let Them Burn
Title:Fast Learner
Author: tiptoe39
Rating: PG-13 for makeouts.
Summary: Sometime after 5x03. Cas gets good at stuff frighteningly quick. Beta'd by onetouchspark.

Fast Learner

The next time, Castiel didn't have any trouble holding his badge up the right way.

Or keeping his mouth shut about demons. Or, for that matter, doing anything that even Sam had taken a few days to get used to doing when they'd first set out to carry on the family business. Truth was, Dean was a little bit shown up. Castiel did humorless FBI-caliber intensity like nobody else, including the humorless FBI, and Dean found himself playing the bumbling newbie to Cas' seasoned veteran. When Castiel intimidated, it wasn't halfway. Fifty-year-old sheriffs who'd caught mass murderers quaked in their size seventeen boots and avoided his gaze, their copious butts quivering in the chair. Dean would have up and laughed if he weren't a little intimidated himself.

Cas had even learned to straighten his own tie. Damn it, Dean had become entirely irrelevant.

He lagged behind as watched as Castiel, like a hurricane, blew through the building, impeccable and unstoppable. He bit his lip watching Cas' figure, walking straight and sure, the suit a frighteningly perfect fit. It now seemed a shame it had taken so long to get him out of that tattered trenchcoat. Castiel was made for a jacket and tie.

Dean realized, somewhere between the Montana werewolf and the Cleveland sewer monster, that Castiel had gotten so far into the swing of this hunting thing that he probably didn't need Dean at all. And, even more surprisingly, Dean was okay with not being needed. Because that meant he was wanted, or Cas would have long since left him behind.

He didn't need to stay in the passenger seat of the car for the all-night drives. He didn't need to listen carefully to Dean's plans before they went in. But he did, he did every time, and that meant he was invested in making Dean feel he was still part of this venture. Castiel wanted Dean along for the ride. That was a powerful statement for him to make.

So in a hallway outside an apartment where a poltergeist had finally passed on to the next world, Dean decided to make a statement of his own. He grabbed Castiel by that insufferably perfect tie of his and kissed him.

Castiel struggled at first, flailing and making surprised sounds against the warm wet thrust of Dean's tongue, the tight pull of his fist. But here, too, Cas was an alarmingly fast learner, and after a swallow and a nervous sniff of breath, he found Dean's cheeks with two rough palms and pulled him in with expert suction, teeth seizing his tongue and grating against it, a rub-clash-slide of pleasure.

A break. They panted. They stared. Their breaths were hot sounds against the corridor's walls.

"You look damn good in a tie," Dean said, horrified at himself, electric currents running in hot and cold bursts along his wrists.

Castiel's mouth twitched. "Thank you."

"That's what you have to say?" Dean wanted to laugh. "Thank you?"

"What should I say?" Hands were holding his. Not that Dean knew when they'd started, but there they were, and they hadn't stopped.

"I don't know." Dean tried to look noncommittal and just ended up looking nervous. "You didn't know I swung that way? You're an angel and not interested in pleasures of the flesh? You'd like me to tear your clothes off right now? All of the above? None of the above?"

Castiel looked thoughtful. Dean wanted to smack him. He wasn't supposed to look thoughtful about this. This wasn't a thought-intensive thing.

"If anything," Castiel said slowly, "probably the third option."

Dean counted on his fingers. His brain was grating against his skull like he'd just downed three frozen margaritas. "Wait. One was you didn't... two was you're ... three is..." His hands came to a halt. "The third? You serious?"

Castiel nodded. Simple nod.

"You make everything look too fucking easy, you know that?"

Castiel didn't answer, just grabbed him, and Dean was helpless and useless again. Helpless but wanted, and he spun like flame on the end of a chain in Castiel's grasp, his kiss. Castiel's fingertips were rubbing his chin lightly, leisurely, and they left a trail of static electricity in their wake. Dean grabbed those teasing hands and forced them down, letting out a frustrated growl. Castiel complied, allowed Dean to mold his hands across the fabric of Dean's pants, never showing shock, always calm, always adapting instantly.

"Too fucking easy," Dean mumbled.

"I think you're making it too complicated," Castiel chided him. His fingers kept moving, drawing patterns against the cloth, tirelessly. His eyes sparkled with glints of wry humor.

Dean kissed him again. "So you seriously think I should tear off your clothes? Because I will, if you keep this up." He cocked his head, his mouth curling upward at one end. "Might keep the tie on, though."

Castiel made a noise not unlike a chuckle against his lips. "You're a fast learner."

Title: Let Them Burn
Author: tiptoe39
Rating: PG
Summary: Post-5x11. A certain character has some words of wisdom for Dean. Beta'd by onetouchspark.

Let Them Burn

This is how you get rid of a ghost. Find its grave, dig it up, burn its bones.

Makes you wonder why people bury bones at all. Sure, having them out of the way, nice and deep beneath the earth you walk on, makes it easy to forget you're stepping on a billion people's years and years of loss. Makes it easier to move around without thinking of all the sadness and all the rage that sleeps beneath these civilized streets. You build your cities, your human creations, on the blood and bones of those who came before. Not just humans. The bones of forests you razed, animals you slaughtered. That's all right. I don't begrudge you that. That's the way of nature. Brutal, bitchy nature with all its delicious little perks.

But if you know that having the bones there makes it easier to create ghosts and vengeful spirits and whatnot, why the hell do you go to so much trouble to preserve them? Sticking them in a nice box, burying them just far enough that it's a pain in the ass to get to them but they aren't gonna dissolve into the earth for a few millennia at least?

I suppose that's why hunters insist on cremation when they die. Figure they will at least save other hunters the trouble just in case they can't seem to let go.

But then again that goes into why hunters are so afraid they won't be able to let go. Which brings me to you two again.

You and I are a lot alike, really. You were right, what you said to me. About running away instead of facing my family. But after what you told him to do? To bury everything away instead of dealing with it? You have some nerve. Some right to talk. You think your hiding is any better than mine? Just because I hide from anger and you hide from grief? I could have kind of appreciated your position before. But you think telling Sam to bury his anger is going to be at all productive?

See, this is why I figure you kids should just get it over with. You're not strong enough to fight Michael and Lucifer off forever. Every time you push an emotion back, let it settle in the pit of your gut and rot there, you're pushing your own humanity away. Without humanity, what have you got? You're nothing. Just an empty vessel.

Vessel. Gee. Where have I heard that word before?

So. I don't know why I'm telling you this, short stuff, but I'm telling you now. If you want to stop the apocalypse? Be the kind of guy you tell me I should be. Dig up those bodies you've been burying for so long. Salt those bones. And let them burn.

"I think you're making it too complicated," Castiel chided him.

LOL!

As for the second one. Was that Gabriel?

Yes it was. I wondered if it wouldn't be too subtle for people to get. Kind of wish I'd held off on posting, made it longer and more involved, but it's ok as is I think... *second guesses self, is dorky*

Thanks as always for your sweet comments!

Those were both awesome! I really especially loved your Cas voice. And I must admit, it took me a little while to work out who the 2nd one's POV could be, but once it clicked into place it made total sense. :D

Thank you so much for reading, and I'm so glad you enjoyed. Competent!Cas is hot :D

That second one.

So. awesome. I'd love to hear that in the show. Because I really don't think that Gabriel would have let Dean's speech go that easily.
Tiptoe39: gabriel awesometiptoe39 on January 23rd, 2010 02:31 am (UTC)
INORITE? He'd probably be all ONYD on Dean's ass :D
that chick over there: Gabrielwornoutbirks on January 23rd, 2010 02:45 am (UTC)
see, the end of that episode is why I don't think that the show is done with Gabriel. i'm waiting for him to come back and be all "HAH. Archangel, bitch." and get with the smiting.
Tiptoe39: gabriel awesometiptoe39 on January 23rd, 2010 02:46 am (UTC)
oh, if the show is done with Gabriel then I'm a monkey's uncle. They can't drop a bombshell like that and have done with it. They have to see how the fan community's responded. They'll bring him back to us. Probably in a totally kickass way. :D :D :D

I'm a fan of Richard, so I'm dying for him to come back to the show.

He's adorable in Band of Brothers.

*is happy*

Cas is so the man.

And Gabe is kind of growing on me :)
Tiptoe39: badass castieltiptoe39 on January 23rd, 2010 02:33 am (UTC)
HE IS TOTALLY THE MAN <3 <3 <3

I know, i never found the Trickster very attractive before but I feel like his being an angel makes his whole character a zillion times deeper, you know? Gives him a reason for being the way he is. And his way of talking really is kind of adorable.

*is writing drunk!sam/gabe right now, eeeee*

Fifty-year-old sheriffs who'd caught mass murderers quaked in their size seventeen boots and avoided his gaze, their copious butts quivering in the chair. This, I think, sums up the entire awesomeness of your story: Cas is a badass the moment he gets the hang of something. The whole story was delightful and DELICIOUS, especially Dean's, "All of the above? None of the above?" Love love LOVE.
Tiptoe39: badass castieltiptoe39 on January 24th, 2010 01:17 pm (UTC)
That was kind of my favorite line too. Ahahahaah. :D

And yes, yes, yes, competent!Cas = teh sex.

SOOOOO glad you liked it!!

Fast Learner:

The idea of Cas being a fast learner and owning the FBI thing is just...UNF. And Dean being horrified at himself and counting on his fingers made me giggle!

Let Them Burn:

The passage about people burying bones is chilling, even more so because it's true. And really, I think I had the same reaction as Gabriel did: "What?! Bury his feelings? How's that going to help Sam?" Oh, boys.

Every time you push an emotion back, let it settle in the pit of your gut and rot there, you're pushing your own humanity away. Without humanity, what have you got? You're nothing. Just an empty vessel.

Amazing point. Both fics made of win, as always! :)
Tiptoe39: broken castiptoe39 on January 24th, 2010 01:18 pm (UTC)
YES! UNF!!! ***snuggles nervous!cas, you're adorable, but competent!Cas is so hot!!!***

I think EVERYONE was ready to slap Dean for saying that. Oh, my god. Maybe Gabriel's the only one with enough stones to actually do it. :D

I'm so thrilled you liked them, hon! Nice to see you :)

Dig up those bodies you've been burying for so long. Salt those bones. And let them burn.

Both pieces were good but those lines clinch it for me, there's a lot of truth in them.

Great work on the subtlety in the second.
Tiptoe39: broken castiptoe39 on January 24th, 2010 01:20 pm (UTC)
Thank you so much! I really wonder if coming face-to-face with their emotions is going to be key in the future, since they're doing so much to bury them now. Looking forward to seeing where the show goes with it. :)

So glad you enjoyed them! :)

Wow love no. 1 and that was Gabriel right number two *giggles* short stuff he is not so tall himself (but oh so hot as well)
Tiptoe39: gabriel awesometiptoe39 on January 24th, 2010 01:21 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I kind of liked the irony of him saying short stuff to Dean. Gabriel's not above a little pettiness, since he obviously has mad skills and doesn't much need to compensate ^_^

Thank you for reading!

Oh yeah, BAMF Cas ftw.

Gabriel needs to come back and get his smite on.

Loved the both of these. :)
Tiptoe39tiptoe39 on January 24th, 2010 09:54 pm (UTC)
thank you! BAMF Cas is totes my favorite *is writing BAMFdom!cas right now...* And yes, he does need to come back and lay down the righteous goofy hand of justice.

:D
laura_trekkie: Charleylaura_trekkie on January 30th, 2010 01:23 pm (UTC)
Heee. Yep, Cas really is a fast learner :). I loved Dean's thoughts about that, how he realised that it meant Cas stuck with him because he wanted to.

Laura.
Tiptoe39: wickedtiptoe39 on January 30th, 2010 05:29 pm (UTC)
Thanks honey!! Glad you liked it. I know some things I wouldn't mind teaching Cas, if he is such a fast learner. *wicked thoughts*

Cheers!
