This meta is practically respectable.

1) Thank you for not making us watch a smooch first thing.

2) lol @ the montage! salt? Scrambled eggs? guns, tools, impala, van. SO AWESOME. god. incredible. coffin/cooler. Just. Amazing. What a great opening sequence. OK, Sera, keep this up and I'm totally yours.

3) O HAI BEN WITH THE GROWTH SPURT.

4) OMG THE OPENING IS TOTALLY THE OPENING I IMAGINED FOR SPN WINDOWS.

5) "Pest control."

6) Jensen has such a nice smile. He's totally getting better with age.

7) Awww, save-the-world genes are still active. Out of practice Dean is rusteh. Still looks the part, but ... the bravado's gone. This is kind of awesome. Looking for that thrill, still. Oh, boy. Every time you realize it's gone, you're disappointed.

8) Jesus, he's lying to her. and she's letting him. she knows. oh, god, it's so tragic and dystopian. i love it. i love it. i love it. Poor boy is in limbo.

9) Grr. Claw monster has claaawwws. AND IT TEARS UP LAUNDRY. That's it, it might go after Lisa's undies. Someone is getting their ass kicked.

10) "Oh his bags are packed, he's ready to go...." Ah there was our smooch. And god, they are both lying so hard to themselves.

11) Creepy garage is creeptastic. I love the nothing... nothing... nothing ... BOO cliche!

12) How does Azazel know about Cas? Not that I care, the way he calls him ".....sugar." BEST INNUENDO EVER.

13) Sideways Sammeh is Sideways. I'm loving the camera angles.

14) Dammeh, Sammeh, you look fucking good. These boys are conspiring to kill me with hot.

15) Some very bad writing throughout this episode. "I looked, believe me I looked." "Had I shown up."

16) "delicate features." Pffft.

17) Oh, do NOT one-up John in front of Dean. That's gonna be a problem.

18) So far, I'm not sure the pacing is as tight as it could be, but it's still fun to watch.

19) HI BOBBY. I love that your first word is dammit. And Readers Digest made me snort out loud.

20) kssssss. bobby knew. dean feels sooo burned. poor guy.

21) Some really bad writing here. Really out of character. "sue me."

22) Ooh. Lisa is so pissed. I'm glad their relationship was not wonderful.

23) Oh, Corin Nemec is gonna be a bitch isn't he. MMMM. Man fight. Dear third cousin, please do not get a crush on a family member.

24) GOLF. AHAHAHAHA. Poor Dean feeling claustrophobic.

25) Needs moar Sam.

26) Too many ending sentences with "...Dean." Bad writing.

27) One of these cousins is a turncoat. I vote for the scruffy one. How did Sam meet them, I wonder? Did they seek him out? Vice versa? i am pretty nervous about three brand-new characters. Please don't let us spend too much time on them.

28) Finally the two guys alone again. Oh Sam looks so sad. His hair looks good.

29) OH NO THEY WENT FOR THE RANDOM NEXT DOOR NEIGHBORS.

30) Dean, you DUMB FUCK.

31) Oh, Spawn of the Djinn. I am sensing a "family" theme. Hmmmm.

32) Tripping!Dean is strangely pretty.

33) MORE FRED! YAY! AWESOME. AWESOME FRED IS AWESOME.

34) Lisa on the ceiling, doo-dah, doo-dah....fuck, the demon blood thing was awesome too, I didn't see that one coming. There was no editing on that scene, though. It dragged on too long.

35) Pretty Djinn girl is pretty... Oh shit, they're keeping it. That's nervewracking. VERY nervewracking. WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK IS GOING ON.

36) I like that he's gonna try and stick around and protect them. Even if it's for all the wrong reasons. I actually like what they're doing.

37) "She should be hunting. Take her." I teared up.

38) That's actually a pretty nice lookin' car. Very Batmobile.

39) Dear DVR, please show me the trailer for the next episode!....Thank you, DVR.

40) Jared is lookin' fierce in that shot.

So far, this is feeling to me very much like the 2nd season of Heroes. The characters are still there, but the pacing is a little slack, and there isn't a sharp focus to it like there used to be. Still, they've started the storylines going, and it has the potential to tighten up. Unfortunately it also has the potential to really fuck up.

But Show is my happy place and I'm happy to see them.

Somethin' is definitely up with the Campbells. How could they not know about the Winchesters? Were they hunting in some far reaches of the Northwest Territories or something? (Either that or they never bothered to play 'interrogation' with a demon.)
Tiptoe39: dean thinkstiptoe39 on September 25th, 2010 04:08 am (UTC)
Very salient point. Whether we get an answer to that will go a long way toward telling us if the writers are having an off day or if they have really let themselves go.
Emily. Just Emily.: SPN - Somber Jareddarth_firefly on September 25th, 2010 04:20 am (UTC)
Fact checking. Must be invested in.

Darkamberdarkamber on September 25th, 2010 03:29 pm (UTC)
I thought it was the other way around? That the Winchester's didn't know the Campbells had been hunters for generations?
Or did I miss something? (I just finished seeing the episode)
Emily. Just Emily.: SPN - Cas Twilightdarth_firefly on September 25th, 2010 04:18 pm (UTC)
Well, my thought is that it seemed that tons of demons knew about the great 'boy king' Sam Winchester... and in a family of hunters, wouldn't you know if one of them got iced by a particularly powerful one?

Think of all the unknown psychic kids that showed up in Cold Oak that Ava killed... and it was kind of hard to miss the whole Apocalypse thing...
saavikam77: Dean Tearsaavikam77 on September 25th, 2010 04:30 am (UTC)
I'm definitely glad the boys are back, but... gods, something must have gone seriously wrong in the writers' room, b/c everyone just seemed really OOC. And Sam seemed so... *emotionless*, especially considering it was *his* orders that got Dean invested in trying to live a life that is so very much NOT for him. The writing just didn't make me believe a damn thing that was said or done.

And I do not for one second trust the Campbells. Period. Full stop. Something creepy is up.

I really hope the writers find that focus, like you said, b/c this could all go straight into the crapper if they're not careful, and I really don't want us all to have to take *that* walk of shame when the series finally ends. :/
Tiptoe39: don't eventiptoe39 on September 25th, 2010 10:18 am (UTC)
I knooow. I really don't wanna feel about SPN the way I feel about Heroes now, which is like --- nnngh --- I want to recommend this series but I can't, not really. I'll be totally sad if that happens.

BUT I'M GONNA BE POSITIVE. PRETTY BOYS ARE PRETTY AND SOMEHOW IT WILL ALL WORK OUTTTTTTT. *sends mojo to writers' room*
♥ Leta: Impala // 1967prettybird on September 25th, 2010 04:32 am (UTC)
Yeah, I'm gonna need to watch this again to make sure I got all the stuff they're setting up. I got stuck on the fact that Sam and Bobby waited a year to contact Dean. WTF, REALLY?
Tiptoe39: being human suckstiptoe39 on September 25th, 2010 10:20 am (UTC)
Of everything, that's one thing I actually found pretty believable. Considering Bobby's past, I can understand what he'd want for Dean, and Sam is... well, Sam appears to be v. v. weird. So we'll see what's up with that...
Sakurasakura_no_mi on September 25th, 2010 08:16 am (UTC)
This premiere makes me laugh and cry and shake my head. And I have pensive shoulders. Yep, they're definitely pensive. But you're right, pretteh boys are pretteh and also...

6) Jensen has such a nice smile. He's totally getting better with age.

This! I love the lines around his eyes and on his forehead, OMG. *haz an old guy fetish* but not really 'cause I'm the same age as him.
Tiptoe39tiptoe39 on September 25th, 2010 10:21 am (UTC)
*massages pensive shoulders* It'll be OK, baby. It'll allllll be OK. I pwomise :3
Maggie: Sammwmm23 on September 25th, 2010 10:04 am (UTC)
I know what you mean about the bad writing - yeah the "I looked. Believe me I looked. For weeks." in particular leapt out to me as being not natural at all. I'm about to watch it again so I'll see if it works better the second time.

But on the other hand SHOWWWWW I love it for existing. ♥
Tiptoe39tiptoe39 on September 25th, 2010 10:24 am (UTC)
Jensen said that some of the turns of phrase felt really "soft" to him. So I should have expected.

This is one of those times where I think Kripke's absence from the top slot will really be a problem. In one of the DVD features (I think) he said in a n interview that he acts out every scene on his own. I can imagine that is a process by which he verifies the authenticity of the dialog, and without that QA, trite phrases will make it into the final script. But that's all just speculation on my part.

BUT SHOW IS MY HAPPY PLACE. *meditates*

This is one of the few things about living in China that I kinda hate. My computer just decided that it is full-up memory-wise and so I can't download anything more until I get hold of the hard drive my daddy got for me.

But I'm all for being spoiled in confusing and fun ways. I can't wait to know what you're talking about!

(P.S. Your story is going to be posted tonight! The writing style is really weird, but I'm excited about it.)
Tiptoe39tiptoe39 on September 25th, 2010 11:00 am (UTC)
OMG, I'm excited! I love interesting writing styles. <3 <3

I'm glad that I am able to spoil/confuse you. I can't wait for your reaction! *snuggles*
Captain Nommers of the Tastypants Brigadesecondplatypus on September 25th, 2010 11:07 am (UTC)
The writing was definitely off as far as Sam's dialogue was concerned, and the more I think about it, the more it bugs me.
I agree with pretty much everything you said. The "possums kill" line made me all nostalgic for old, snarky-Dean, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of that from him.

... that Azazel line may or may not have made me all shivery.
Tiptoe39tiptoe39 on September 25th, 2010 11:45 am (UTC)
Yeah, I need to see more snarky!Dean and I hope he gets his groove back. You can be changed and still have your character be consistent, and I can see Jensen's nervous about where it's gonna go. But he's a good actor and he made me believe it. I have faaaaith. :-)

Azazel/Cas new otp?

*throws up in mouth a little.... but would read*
Captain Nommers of the Tastypants Brigadesecondplatypus on September 25th, 2010 08:16 pm (UTC)
Regardless of anything else that can be said about that episode, it seems to be pretty universally agreed that Jensen's performance was very strong. I think he's doing a terrific job, and he's sold me.
Keeping character consistency throughout all the changes that are going on is going to be essential. I'm still trying to get a bead on Sam and figure out what's going on in there after his little stint with Lucifer. Even though I understand why he's changed so much and think it's necessary, given the archangel who was riding him, the fact of the matter remains that I miss my Sammy.

Dirty old fallen angel getting all drooly over Cas.
Azazel is a pervy pervy pervypants and I could totally see that, and given the fact that our fandom is full of pervy pervy pervypantses, I wouldn't be surprised if Azzie/Cas starts popping up here and there. I am surprised, though, by the sick curiosity I feel when I think about those two together.
In short: Azazel/Cas new otp mebbe.
Tiptoe39: dean winkstiptoe39 on September 25th, 2010 10:38 pm (UTC)
He's just getting better and better, yeah. Unf. Did I mention unf? Do you know how hard it is to be a devoted Jaredgirl when Jensen's looking that fine? For fuck's sake.

Dirtyoldman!Az for the win. For sure.
Captain Nommers of the Tastypants Brigadesecondplatypus on September 26th, 2010 06:34 am (UTC)
Goddamn straight I know how hard that is! As a proud waffler back and forth between Sam and Dean (for the last little while, I've consistently wanted to screw Sam senseless, but I started off a Dean girl and I've been torn between them more times than I can tell you). Jared pretty much exemplifies my type, but I've always found Jensen ridiculously beautiful, and he's getting sexier and sexier as time goes by. I can feel myself making the shift back to Jensen, and hard as I try to fight it, I fear it may be a losing battle. :)
Darkamberdarkamber on September 25th, 2010 03:32 pm (UTC)
Heh, finally someone who liked Sam's car. I thought it looked cool. ^_^
Tiptoe39: batmantiptoe39 on September 25th, 2010 03:41 pm (UTC)
Well, it has stiff competition... but hey, Batmobile is Batmobile. ^o^
Darkamberdarkamber on September 25th, 2010 04:11 pm (UTC)
Or, the Impala is the Batmobile, and Sam's car (whatever it was) is the, er, Robinmobile? Or Nightwingmobile. :-)
stark raving sane: sam-facepalmarchiveninja on September 25th, 2010 06:08 pm (UTC)
I don't know what was up with Sam's dialogue, but it was really, really flat. It was like they just needed him to spit out xyz information and didn't care about how the character would really act. Unless it's not really Sam. Also the Campbells are obviously evil.

I hope it gets better. They could start be de-lobotomizing the boys.

We need Jeremy Carver back yesterday.

Oh well, every other time they scared us they made it work. I will just hope there's a lot going on that Sam is trying to keep down.
stark raving sane: sam-bitchfacearchiveninja on September 26th, 2010 12:31 am (UTC)
Yes, hopefully they're just ... setting up something. But I no likey Robo-Sam.

I spent a good portion of the episode WANTING DEAN TO PUNCH HIM. You know how weird that is for me? VERY.
Tiptoe39: dean brokentiptoe39 on September 26th, 2010 12:42 am (UTC)
And yet you can't fault Jensen's performance at all. He made it work.

Sexily, I might add.

Robo-Sam, lawl. We can set him up with the Buffybot.
stark raving sane: winchesters-diggingarchiveninja on September 26th, 2010 01:01 am (UTC)
Oh yes, he did a great job with what he ad to work with.

BUT METALLICAR BEING LOST AND FORLORN UNDER A TARP IS ALL THINGS THAT ARE WRONG WITH THE UNIVERSE.

Buffybot was funny. Robo-Sam is ... not.

Jensen has such a nice smile. He's totally getting better with age.
Repeated awed comments as to the hotness of Jensen were uttered in the home where I was watching. (That's the one thing you can say out loud while Show's on with no risk of being shushed).

Jesus, he's lying to her. and she's letting him. she knows. oh, god, it's so tragic and dystopian. i love it. i love it. i love it. Poor boy is in limbo.
Ooh, I'd forgotten that was something I liked - showing the delicate balancing act there, and that Lisa is nobody's fool... which includes realising that it's sometimes better not to know.

How does Azazel know about Cas? Not that I care, the way he calls him ".....sugar." BEST INNUENDO EVER.
Right? RIGHT? My friend disagreed that this was even a reference to Cas. For a minute there, we were very nearly not still friends.

GOLF. AHAHAHAHA. Poor Dean feeling claustrophobic.
Now this, I did not get. Sam wants Dean to feel good about his life... yet joins in the teasing? Also, Dear Sam: there are other reasons Dean might like to have a large bag of dangerous metal clubs handy, reasons that have NOTHING TO DO with golf, so please to stop being a tool.

I think I am in overall agreement with you - neither as bad as I had feared, nor as good as I had hoped.
