Title: A Vacation
Prompt: vacation
Fandom/Characters: Doctor Who, Eleven/&Amy
Medium: fic
Rating: PG
Warnings: I am not caught up on DW 11, so maybe this is Jossed...
Summary: Amy thinks the Doctor needs a vacation. For schmoop_bingo!

"A vacation."

"You think I should take a vacation."

Amy nodded that forceful chin. "That's right."

"I'm the Doctor. My whole life is a vacation."

"Your whole life," Amy corrected, "is travel. Travel doesn't count as a vacation. Ask anyone in a security queue."

"Listen, Amy." The Doctor tried for the comforting older-brother tack, which was pretty daft considering he looked about Amy's age if not a tad younger. "I appreciate what you're trying to tell me here, but... what are you trying to tell me here?"

Amy drew her lips together, folded her arms, and tapped her foot. Any two of the above were causes for concern. All three meant patience was just about running out. She quite frequently used all three around the Doctor. "Look," she said after a few hastily drawn deep breaths. "Wherever you go, no matter what planet of spaceship or time or whatever, there's always some great crisis that requires your intervention. I understand that you like leaping to the rescue and all, but it can't be good for your blood pressure."

"A-ha!" The Doctor whirled on her. "I have two hearts. Helps tremendously with regulating the blood pressure."

"And how's the heartburn, then?"

The Doctor stopped short. Very few people could stop the Doctor short as quickly, or as frequently, as Amy Pond.

"Look," he said, turning away from her. "As much as I'd like to say I pilot her, the TARDIS has a tendency to take me exactly where I need to be. It's her way."

Amy slid up to him, propped her chin onto his shoulder. "Exactly," she said. "And what if where you need to be is on vacation?"

The Doctor looked down at the instrument. "I don't know if I can promise she'll do what I say. Look what happened when I tried to bring her back to you."

Amy's head lolled on his shoulder, and she gave a soft laugh. "That turned out pretty well, if you ask me," she said.

He gave a sigh, a dim smile, and then a soft but decisive nod.

The TARDIS set them down on a universe of white sand and aquamarine coastline. Behind them, the fields ran forever to distant, ancient mountains. Nobody needed rescuing.
