Get rid of the Facebook/Twitter buttons!
In two easy steps! A huge hat-tip to just_chiara who linked to this originally!

1) First of all, install the Greasemonkey add-on for Firefox.
2) Then go to this page and hit the "install" button.
3) ??
4) Profit!

So, this just deletes them to your view, but not to others' when they look at your journal?

I guess I'd rather know the evil lurking there. *sigh*
Tiptoe39tiptoe39 on September 1st, 2010 02:03 pm (UTC)
Yeah, it's only for your viewing convenience. If other people want to share your post on facebook and it's public, they can do that anyway; this just makes it that much frickin easier... >.> For me it's useful because when i type a comment I always hit tab-space to post it, instead of clicking the post button with my mouse, and the new positioning of the buttons made that impossible... also because they're fugly. But yeah, it doesn't block your posts from being shared by others or anything.

Hrm. Ah well. Livejournal is always changing.

Well, gives me an excuse to clean house like I've been meaning to for years, without offending anyone. ;)

Thanks for posting the install stuff for Greasemonkey, hon! I had no idea what that was or how to install the code fix, but now I've got everything installed and it's all working perfectly, and with minimal clicking. XD

My gods, I HATE this new FB/Twitter crosspost crap. D:
Tiptoe39tiptoe39 on September 1st, 2010 02:18 pm (UTC)
awesome, so glad it worked for you. :D and me thinks you are in the majority w/your opinion.

how you been sweetie? *snuggles*

I seriously don't get why or how LJ could do this without even *considering* that the majority of LJ users would find this to be an invasion of privacy. *mind boggles*

I'm doing otherwise well, hon. Been trying to take care of myself better, and the house, and finish a bunch of ficcish stuff (inc. the Sam/Dean fic I owe you ^_~). Same old, same old, I suppose. :p

*smishes back*
Tiptoe39tiptoe39 on September 1st, 2010 02:54 pm (UTC)
You owe me a Sam/Dean fic?

It's smut for your birthday, IIRC. :p I just need to get my SPN muses riled up again. XD

Aw shoot, I was hoping there was a way to actually disable them. I don't EVER want to cross-post; I try to remember to log out of FB when I'm not using it, but I don't always remember, and I've had programs talk to each other without my permission before...

(...which is possibly relevant for you, actually: if you have a gmail account linked to your iPhone, you may want to double-check that your phone isn't automatically emailing Memos from your phone to your email account (...or is, if that's your preference). I got a bad shock when, after updating my iPhone software, the phone started doing that without telling me. I have some stuff on my phone I don't want to share with Google, thanks).
Tiptoe39tiptoe39 on September 2nd, 2010 06:05 pm (UTC)
Hrrm. I can't imagine how you could cross-post without your knowledge. Of course anyone can link to a public post from anywhere on the web if it's public.

I'll keep an eye out for evil malicious e-mail sharing on the iPhone. Thanks!
twfftwtfwftw on September 2nd, 2010 06:18 pm (UTC)
Hee. I know it doesn't sound like a big deal, but I used to draft fic snippets in Memos before I got the Editor program, and I don't like the idea of those floating around in a gmail account that (literally) has my name on it.

(FB vs. linking to a public post is the same, for me: link away, just don't attach my RL name).
