This meta is going to its safety school.

1) Completely irrelevant to what most people care about, but I thought the "The Road So Far" montage was one of the best-put-together we've seen so far on Show. Visually, it was stunning. Say what you will about Season 7, the optics, the gross-out scenes, etc., were really well done, and slammed wall-to-wall like that they looked really awesome.

2) Why yes, I probably would watch a full hour of Dean walking down the street. Dem bowlegs. :)

3) After Dean let Benny out of his arm XD, did he say to him "One down"? Does that mean they are still planning to break Cas out? (Hope springs eternal.)

4) OK, and this is a bone of contention, did Dean call Sam and summon him to Rufus' cabin? Because that's what my friends say. And I'm inclined to believe -- still need to go to the scene where Dean talks about Sam's numbers to see if it's implied that he finally got through, but yeah, none of them looked stunned to see each other -- but if so, why didn't he just come to the damn door? And why did Amelia open her eyes when Sam sneaked out but not ask him where he was going, or stop him? And what's the status of that relationship, anyway? Sam said it was over, but he clearly left her and went up to the cabin. Sam is not being quite so straightforward, methinks. I wonder if he sneaks out more often than we know.

5) Jared's hair is phenomenal. This has been incredibly-not-breaking news.

6) OK, the looks on their faces when they talked about Cas -- and Sam's "I'm sorry" as though he were comforting Dean on the loss of a loved one -- broke me a little bit. The caring was there, etched into each moment of that. And also the difficulty with which they moved on from that subject. I don't believe for a minute that Dean didn't hurt deeply over whatever happened.

7) Dean's pretty damn bitter for a guy who's trying to be all business, all hunt. Which works. People in war hurt a lot, but can still look like they're shutting emotions off. The dichotomy worked extraordinarily well.

8) I know everyone thinks Kevin's best line was the one about safety school, but my god, "if you're still alive, EAT ME" cracked me up way more.

9) So nice to see the Impala arsenal again. And Dean's "No visible signs of douchery" was a great line. Enjoyed the whole scene with the dog-smell.

10) I liked the parallel with Dean looking at the vending machine & Benny at the end, both of them absolutely spoiled for choice.

11) So clearly this season will be about the Word of God Jensen Ackles and the quest to close the gates of hell destroy our ovaries forever.

12) WHERE'S THE ANGEL. FIRST WE FIND THE ANGEL. Oh yeah, Cas is REALLY far from Dean's mind. >.< *looks back up at #3, has immense hope.*

13) So when does "Kooking With Kevin" debut on the Food Network? Honestly, though, Kevin doesn't do much for me as a character. He was cuter when he was clueless, and I'm really waiting to see Osric Chau have something he can sink his teeth around, acting-wise. The scene with his girlfriend... it just didn't rip my guts out the way it ought to. I felt bad for him, but that was because of the circumstances, not the look in his eyes.

14) Loved that Crowley mentioned the mutton chops!

15) So. The big question. How does Benny know Dean described Purgatory as "pure"? Had they talked about it before? Or is there some kind of link between them -- or, as zatnikatel has surmised, is it possible Benny's just in Dean's mind? Since apparently Sam reacted to the phone ringing, I guess that's not possible. What if Benny is *really* Cas? It's far-fetched but it's the only other thing I can think of... Urgh.

16) All in all, there's a lot of places in this episode where I saw inconsistencies that could equally well be horrible plot holes or the opportunity to really mindfuck us with good twists. Reasons why people said and did what they did that weren't immediately apparent. Given what we've heard about Carver & Co.'s vision for the season, I'm really hoping that all of those were intentional, so that we can go back to 8x01 and say "ohhh, so THAT'S why that happened." But they were a little too subtle, and that scares me, because if they ARE plot holes they're really big ones.

Them's my thoughts! Have at it!

Watched it twice now and I see what you mean about holes. Too much bouncing around for me. And I totally agree with you on the montage! Here is to hoping things become a little clearer next week. P.S. Do Not Like Benny!!!!

Yeah, at the very least that was a gorgeous montage! I liked how it didn't try to be too ambitious as a premiere, though. It didn't try to blow us out of our seats, it tried to make us squirm in them a bit, and if they carry that through it will be powerful stuff. However, if the squirming is not followed up on, it will be looked back on as a weak episode.

Make that two hours for me.

Totally agree.

My verdict on Kevin is still out - and the plot holes... I think I was too busy staring at Dean to notice plot holes. Guess that can happen too... may just have to re-watch the episode.

It was REALLY REALLY DIFFICULT to look at anything but Dean's overhwelming, scalding hotness. And Sam's stubble had me drooling, too. Oh Show. We will truly forgive you anything for these boys, you know that? XD

I want to play with Sam's hair and watch Dean walk around in those tight jeans.

Hmmm I am reminded of nursethalia's slumber party fanart. Even tho that's kind of the other way around.

I'm wondering if Cas was corrupted by the "pureness" of Pergatory and ended up becoming King Mischa of the Monsterworld, so that's why Dean said he "saw enough." Because Cas wasn't really Cas by the time Dean was able to escape. And maybe Dean's kinda fixated on Benny 'cause he hoped he was going to be able to bring Cas out of Pergatory like Cas brought him out of Hell, but couldn't manage it, so hence the snappiness as a cover for feels. /my musings.

...It's a great idea. I don't think current spoilers match up with it, but I'd love to read it :D Go write!

It was really good! I liked the montage with Jethro Tull playing in the background! Love the new title card also!!!

Both guys were hotter than the sun! Finally SAm is allowed to look attractive, but him walking around all sheepish was odder than odd! This is not a sheepish man, but he came across that way.
